The event that kicked it all off five years ago with Indigenous fashion and beauty in the Far North is back for 2017 with a complete showcase with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander models, designers and artists to be shown on this years catwalk.

Proclaimed as the first annual grass-roots Indigenous fashion and textile showcase the event, hosted by 'Dawul Wuru Aboriginal Corporation' has become a sustainable venture that does not draw on the Government purse and maintains it's social and community benefits.

"We're here to create opportunities for our people, this is the best way we can do it. We're providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and of course their beauty."
Bronwyn Singleton, [RIFTS] Co-ordinator

Cairns [RIFTS] Regional Indigenous Fashion and Textile Showcase has become a familiar event in Cairns and one that is not to be missed. It may not be the catwalks of Sydney, New York or Tokyo but [RIFTS] provides an opportunities for everyone to get involved, and if your got the commitment we've got the space.

"We take pride in [RIFTS] using Indigenous local talent, from models, fashion designers, artists, makeup artists, hairdressers, photographers and graphic and web designers. It's 100% local Indigenous talent. We're simply walking the talk and doing what the Government is telling us all to do."
Bronwyn Singleton, [RIFTS] Co-ordinator

Each year the event has gone from strength to strength and has provided opportunities for local Indigenous talent to get involved through in-kind support with no government support or engagement.

[RIFTS] will be held at the Rydges Tradewinds in Cairns on the 2 June 2017.
